Nail
growth rate decreases with age. Investigators have found
that maximal difference between 20-25 and 80 year old patients
is about 50%, and between 30 and 60 years old -– about 20–30%,
since growth-rate decrease has two peaks, after puberty and
in elderly. Mature adult’s nail-growth rate annual decrease
is approximately 0,5%. We use these differences for grading
of nail growth periods –- one for the 15–25 years, one for the
30–60 year span and one for the 60 years and over 60. Given
the difference between the first and second and between second
and third groups is about 25% and the difference between the
first and the third groups is about 5 %, we can introduce an
equation: a + 3, where a is the age group graded from
1 to 3. Addition to 3 brings 25 % of difference between neighboring
age groups. |
