Nail
growth and treatment outcome |
|
|
|
Outgrowth
of normally-looking nail is the only criterion for clinical
cure. Since that the rate of nail outgrowth is the key factor
defining expected time of cure and duration of treatment course.
Explaining the impact of nail outgrowth we utilize our "delta-V"
concept of pathogenesis:
Here Delta-V is
a resultant forse between
fungal growth in the nail towards its proximal part (DLSO) and
opposing force of the natural nail growth.
Antifungal treatment stops or slowers fungal growth, and while
this is true natural nail growth moves fungi out of the nail.
If nail growth is slow, more time is needed to achieve full
cure.
Key growth-determining factors proposed in SCIO are the
target nail location and the age of the patient.
