Four. Location |

Location,
i.e. finger or toe that carries affected nail is an obvious
treatment success determining factor, as systemic treatment
schemes for fingernails and toenails are different.
But difference in growth rate exists even between fingers of
the same extremity. We know that thumbnails and big toe nails
grow almost twice slower than other nails of that extremity.
Known difference between growth rate of the thumbnails and big
toe nails is about 1,5. So we can see that their outgrowth times
relate to each other as 2 to 3. The fingernails of II-V fingers
grow approximately 3 times faster (0,1 mm/month) than big toenails.
So, their outgrowth times relate to each other as 1 to 3 (where
the slower is the larger value). In nails of II-V toes outgrowth
time is close to the time for thumbnail because of the faster
rate but greater length of the latter. From above numbers we
can see that the 1-2-3 grading becomes possible here also. |
