  Second SCIO trial
 

This is abstract of EADV 2001
The aim of the current prospective study was to compare the efficacy of pulsed regimens of itraconazole (3 cycles of 400 mg per day 7 days a week with 3-week intervals) and fluconazole (150 mg once weekly), and continuous regimens with terbinafine (3 months of 250 mg daily) and ketoconazole (6 months of 200 mg daily).
The total of 44 patients aged 35 to 60 with toenail onychomycosis and SCIO values of 9-12 were included into study. The diagnosis was confirmed by direct microscopy sand culture, T. rubrum was the only pathogen. The patients were randomly assigned to 4 groups according to the antifungal administered. All patients were observed at 4, 8, 12, 36 and 48 weeks from the beginning of the study. The SCIO values were recorded at each visit. The mycological examination was performed on final visit.
The common clinical cure (SCIO=0), counted for all groups, was 88,6% at week 48.
