One
should realise that until nail regrows completely, microscopy
with KOH will remain positive. That's it, even dead fungus will
not disappear from the nail until normail growth moves it out.
One who don't understand it, will make unneccessary mycology
check-ups and always get positive results. SCIO may help clinician
not to make such mistake. SCIO values approximately indicate
time for endpoint evaluation. E.g., evaluate on 8 month if SCIO
is 8. In our practice we evaluate patients twice: first, on
3rd month and second time -- depending on final SCIO value.
Initial SCIO also helps to calculate treatment costs. E.g. SCIO
of 12 corresponds to 6 packs of either itraconazole or terbinafine.
We even proposed cost-effectiveness evaluation according to
SCIO values. Yes, that means "how much is 1 point of SCIO
with this drug?"! |
